Frasassi Caves

n the Frasassi caves, the Abyss Anconais is the first part of the cave and the researchers gave to it the name of their city. It is a big hollow, perhaps one of the bigger hollow in Europe and in the world: 180 m long , 120 m large and 200 m high. The inside is that large that it would have no problem to contain the famous Cathedral of Milan “Il Duomo”.

Natural Opera

The shapes and sizes of these natural works have stimulated the imagination of the cavers, who after having discovered them they “baptized” calling them in a curious way: the “Giants”, the “Virgin Mary”, the “Sword of Damocles” (large stalactite of 7.40 m in height and 150 cm in diameter), “Niagara Falls”, the “Organ Pipes” (conical-lamellar concretions that owe their name to the fact that if they are hit resonate), “the Witches Castle”.

Parco Regionale del Conero
